I am a big fan of Giga and Zen Studio's productions. Giga and Zen are Japanese studios that produce erotic (typically) superheroine films. The main theme is ryona, which is essentially a depiction of pretty women getting physically hurt. Giga and Zen, as I understand it, are essentially the same studio, but branded differently. Giga deals with the more erotic, adult oriented films and Zen deals with content that is less sexual in nature, though the line at times gets blurred. I would like to use this blog as an outlet to talk about some of these films and why I enjoy them.
In a Giga or Zen film, nothing is easy for our lovely heroines. Just because they are girls, doesn't mean that the villains are going to go easy. That would just be sexist. The challenges are vast, sometimes insurmountable. Sometimes they'll win, sometimes they'll lose. The fights are always difficult, but not always fair. The fact that these girls always go up against such difficult odds and endure such unimaginable pain makes them, in my eyes, the strongest heroes ever!
A lot of the ideas presented in these films make you go "Of course, Japan..." In these cases, you either enjoy it or you go "Wow, that was new." I enjoy the weirder things, but also enjoy a good ol' fashion beating.
